Question: How do you import or upload a vector file into the software so it can be digitized?

Perfect Embroidery Pro allows you to import images and artwork you want to digitize into the system. Images are like photographs. The most common formats for images are .jpg and .bmp (file example: Flower.jpg). As you enlarge an image the quality reduces and becomes blurry (pixelation). Artwork is different. It isn’t made up of dots of color, it is made up of solid color. Because of this, it can be resized without blurring or distorting. The most common formats for artwork are .eps, .wmf, .emf, .ai, .plt, .dxf. (file example: Flower.eps). It is important that you recognize what format the image or artwork is in when loading it into the software.

To load images (.jpg, .bmp) you do the following:

  1. Select File from the menu bar
  2. Select “Load Backdrop
  3. Navigate to the location on your computer where the image is stored
  4. Select the image
  5. Click “Open

To load artwork (.ai, .eps, .emf, .wmf, .plt, .dxf) you do the following:

  1. Select File from the menu bar
  2. Select “Import Artwork
  3. Navigate to the location on your computer where the artwork is stored
  4. Select the artwork file
  5. Click “Open

Images explained:
Images contain pixels – or small dots of color – that are laid next to each other to form a image. When you enlarge images they become grainy or blurry. Quality of the image is dependent on the number of pixels – or dots – per inch in the image. For example, a image that has 300 dots per inch (dpi) looks much more crisp than a image that has 100 dots per inch. More dots equals more detail in the image. Likewise, an image that has 300 dots per inch (dpi) can maintain a clearer and crisper look when enlarged than a image that has 100 dots per inch (dpi). This is because you are only making each pixel – or dot of color – larger. The larger you make the pixels, the less defined or crisp the image looks.

Artwork explained:
It is important to know that in the case of importing artwork into the system we are talking about vector artwork. Vector artwork is digital, scalable artwork. Vector artwork is shapes created in software that are filled in with solid color. As you increase the size of the shape the software refills that shape with solid color. Because it is solid and does not contain little dots of color like images do it can be resized as large or small as desired without getting blurry. Generally, vector artwork is much less detailed than images. It is often used in logo designs.
